Chilean Documentaries in Sheffield
The 31st Sheffield Doc/Fest will feature a robust Chilean participation
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2024, running from June 12 to 17, will feature a strong Chilean presence, with the world premiere of Relentless Memory by Paula Rodríguez in the international competition. The film follows Margarita, a Mapuche activist, as she uncovers her people's history. Another standout is Piropolis by Nicolas Molina, showcased in the People & Community section, depicting the challenges faced by the Pompe France fire brigade in Valparaíso during the 2019 social unrest.
Additionally, A Troop of Bears by Christián Martínez, Paola Castillo, and Pachi Bustos, will be part of the MeetMarket, exploring themes of betrayal and historical trauma from Chile's military dictatorship era. Supported by the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (Mincap), over a dozen Chilean producers will participate, with Chiledoc's Deputy Director Diego Pino Anguita serving as a jury member. Chiledoc's ongoing mission is to promote Chilean documentaries worldwide, highlighting their artistic and thematic diversity.
