The city of Venice is like a film set itself and has been an inspiration for many film directors. Truls Lie will take attendees on a journey of Italian film history with a philosophical perspective. Learn more about great directors like Luchino Visconti (Morte a Venezia, Il Gattopardo …), Michelangelo Antonioni (La Notte, …), Pier Paolo Pasolini (Teorema, Salo …) and Paolo Sorrentino (Young/New Pope, …), also by reference to philosophers like the Italian Giorgio Agamben and French Gilles Deleuze. You will watch clips and movies, analyse and discuss their plots and subject matters, and go to Lido di Venezia where scenes from the legendary movie Death in Venice were shot.
The «Italian cinema & philosophy» seminar is organised by Salotto Accademico, a Norwegian-run cultural academy offering courses in art, humanities and languages.
